Learn to Row

One week, zero experience needed

Camps run in June and July at the Tidewater Boating Center for athletes entering grades 6 to 12. Expert coaching and all equipment provided.

Camps run at three levels.

  • Level I is for beginners who have never rowed.
  • Level II is for athletes with at least one week of camp or a school-year session behind them.
  • High School Bridge Camp is for athletes moving up from the middle school competitive development program into high school rowing.

Brand new athletes should start with one Level I week, then take Level II for any additional weeks.

Middle school camps

Rising 6th to 8th graders, all experience levels. Fundamentals of the sport in a fun, supportive atmosphere. Level I and Level II.

  • Monday through Friday
  • 8:30 to 11:00am

High school camps

Rising 9th to 12th graders new to rowing or building on middle school experience. Level I and Level II. The perfect camp before joining the High School racing team in the fall.

  • Monday through Friday
  • 11:30am to 2:00pm

High school bridge camp

For athletes moving up from the middle school competitive development program into the High School racing team who want to improve their skills. 11:30am to 2:00pm, alongside the high school camps.

What the coaches want you to know

Learn to Row is the easiest way to get started. One week, half days, no experience or equipment required. These camps are focused on teaching fundamental movements of the rowing stroke in a fun and engaging atmosphere. Our camps give young athletes the tools they need to continue to pursue rowing in our School Year Programs during the fall and spring.

Give back, get faster

Volunteer as a camp mentor

Athletes moving up to the high school team can volunteer at the middle school camps: row and steer for new rowers in the morning, then train in the afternoon session. Volunteers earn a $75 credit toward the same week of high school camp.
