What we collect, and what we do not

Last updated September 25, 2026. Oakland Strokes, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit youth rowing club in Oakland, California. This page covers oaklandstrokes.org. It is written to be read, not to be survived.

The short version

We do not sell your information. We do not share it with advertisers. We collect the least we can get away with: an email address if you ask to hear from us, and anonymous statistics about which pages people read. Registration and payment happen on Active.com, not here, so we never see or store a card number.

What this site collects

Analytics

We use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages are useful, and we use what it tells us to decide what to write next. Nothing more.

Google Analytics sets cookies and records things like the pages you view, roughly where in the world you are, and what kind of device you used. If you would rather not be counted, most browsers offer a Do Not Track setting, and Google publishes a browser opt-out add-on.

Email signups

If you join our email list, we collect your email address and store it in Constant Contact, the service we use to send email. We use it to send news about the club, trial dates and registration windows. Every email we send has an unsubscribe link, and it works. We do not rent, sell or trade the list.

When you email or call us

We keep what you send us so we can answer you and follow up. Financial aid applications go to the Scholarship Committee and are treated as confidential. If you mail tax documents as part of an aid application, we ask you to black out Social Security numbers first, and we do not want them.

Registration

Registration for every program runs on Active.com, which is a separate company with its own privacy policy. When you click through to register, what you enter there is governed by their terms, not ours. We receive the roster information we need to run the program: athlete name, grade, emergency contacts and the like. Payment is handled entirely by Active. Oakland Strokes never sees your card number.

Server logs

This site is hosted on Vercel, which keeps standard server logs including IP addresses, for a limited time, to keep the site running and to stop abuse.

The members area

/members is behind a shared team password. It is a convenience for current families, not a secure vault, and we do not put sensitive personal information behind it.

Young people

We work with athletes in grades 6 through 12, which means some of them are under 13. This website is written for families, and we ask that registration, email signups and any contact with us come from a parent or guardian rather than from a child.

We do not knowingly collect personal information from a child under 13 through this website. If you believe your child has given us information and you would like it removed, email information@oaklandstrokes.org and we will delete it.

Photographs and video of athletes are only published when we have a signed photo release on file for that athlete. If you have given a release and want to withdraw it, tell us and we will take the image down.

Your choices

California residents have rights under the CCPA and CPRA, including the right to know what personal information we hold about you, to ask us to delete it, and to correct it. We do not sell or share personal information as those laws define it.

To make any of those requests, or to ask a question about this page, email information@oaklandstrokes.org or write to Oakland Strokes, Inc., 4096 Piedmont Ave., PMB 308, Oakland, CA 94611. We will not treat you differently for asking.

Terms of use

The words, photographs and design on this site belong to Oakland Strokes, Inc. You are welcome to link to us and to share pages. Please do not republish our photographs of athletes elsewhere.

We work hard to keep schedules, fees and dates accurate, but they change. Where this site and a registration page on Active.com disagree, Active is authoritative. Nothing on this site is a contract, and rowing is a physical sport with real risk on open water, which the registration paperwork covers properly.

Links to other organizations are for convenience. We are not responsible for what is on their sites.

Questions about any of this go to information@oaklandstrokes.org or (510) 926-4100.
