San Diego Crew Classic 2016

The Oakland Strokes had another great weekend of racing at the San Diego Crew Classic. Regarded by many as the first major regatta of the year, the San Diego Crew Classic brings together thousands of athletes from more than 100 universities, clubs and high school programs from across the United States to participate in this premier rowing event. The Strokes sent six Varsity and two Novice crews south to San Diego to compete.
The Varsity Men had an extremely successful weekend, winning the Men’s Varsity 8+ and JV8+, with the Lightweight 8+ making the Grand Final. This was the first win in the Varsity 8+ for the men since 2004, and the first time sweeping the Varsity and JV 8+s since 1999!
The Varsity Women had a successful regatta as well, placing third in the JV8+ and Lightweight 8+, with the Varsity 8+ making the Grand Final. The Strokes brought their Novice A 8+s to San Diego for the first time in history, and both boats made the best of it by securing well deserved second place finishes.
