Varsity Summer Camps

2025 VARSITY ROWING SUMMER CAMP

The Oakland Strokes Varsity Summer Camp is designed for all Oakland athletes who were on the High School Racing Team in the Fall 2024 and/or Spring of 2025, including our graduating seniors. 

Camp Structure and goals

The Oakland Varsity Summer Camp is for all experienced Oakland Strokes High School athletes.  All athletes will have the same practice schedule and will be selected into cohorts based on age, fitness, and skill level.

This Summer the camp will be split into two parts:

• Summer Pre-camp - 3 week session in late May / early June concurrent with Youth Nationals Training for athletes who are not traveling Youth Nationals

• Summer Camp - 3 week session post Youth Nationals in late June / early July split into a development cohort and a cohort training for the BC Championships Regatta 

It is important to note that not all athletes will be selected to compete at the BC Championships. Athletes who wish to be considered to compete at the BC Championships will need to inform coaches at the beginning of camp if they are available for the dates of the regatta. Athletes not selected to travel and race will be supported to continue training and developing skills with the goal of preparing them to row in the fall. 

Athletes who are not available to attend the entire camp are welcome to attend at a prorated cost; however, they will not be eligible to participate in the BC Championships Regatta trip.  Please contact us for prorate codes if you are not able to attend the full camp.

Our intent is to look at competing in all boat classes, including straight (non-coxed) boats. We highly recommend that coxswains speak with Allison and/or Jovan about participating in the varsity camp.

Summer Pre-Camp 

Dates: May 19th thru June 6th

Times: Monday thru Friday, 4:30pm - 7:00pm

Location: Tidewater Aquatic Center

Summer Camp

Dates: June 18th thru July 9th

Times: Monday thru Friday, 8:00am - 10:30am & 11:30am - 1:00pm and Saturday, 8:00am - 10:30am

Location: Tidewater Aquatic Center

Program Cost:

Summer Development Pre-Camp: $500

Summer Camp:  $1600

Summer Pre-Camp & Camp: $2000

Regatta Dates & Cost:

Racing is held July 11 - 13 in Lake Burnaby, BC. 

Cost and Itinerary TBA. The cost of the camp does not include travel costs. 

The athletes racing would leave on Wednesday, July 9th and return on Sunday, July 13th. 

Athletes who register before April 15th will be eligible to reserve their spot in camp for $100 with the remainder of the program costs due June 14, 2023.
