The Oakland Strokes youth rowing club won gold and bronze medals at the legendary Head of the Charles fall rowing classic in Boston, October 19-20, 2013. The competition included 85 of the top high school rowing teams in the North America and England. In commanding fashion, Stroke’s Womens Varsity 8+ finished the 4800 meter course in a winning time of 17.23 minutes, a full 17 seconds ahead of second place OKC Riversport and third place Marin Rowing Association. The Womens Varsity 8+ was crewed by Elizabeth Elmgren (Oakland Tech), Tara Bozzini (Acalanes HS), Marie Johnson (Miramonte HS), Abby Vare (St. Marys HS), Katie Hubert (Piedmont HS), Jennifer Mundelius (San Ramon Valley HS), Lindy Clute (Carondelet HS), Amy Tarczynski (St. Marys HS), and coxswain Margaret Ross (Miramonte HS).
The Stroke’s Varsity Mens 8+ put on an exciting finish to their race, advancing through the crowded Charles River from a start position of 8 to an exciting third place finish time of 15.31 minutes, only 7 seconds behind 1st place Marin and 1 second behind 2nd place St. Paul's of London, England. The Stroke’s Varsity Mens 8+ was crewed by Marshall Krock (Monte Vista HS), Viggo Hoite (Berkeley HS), Josef Starc (Oakland Tech), David Parker (Bentley HS), Kevin Chang (Bentley HS), Christian Cuellar (Alameda HS), Allan Hosler (Piedmont HS), Daniel Hogan (DeLaSalle HS), and coxswain Hannah Christopher (Miramonte HS).

No broken boats or injured rowers, but the collision cost them a certain top 10 finish. The Women's Varsity 4+ was crewed by Madelynn Prendergast (Head Royce School), Olivia Klinkenberg (Acalanes HS), Jillian Lundstrom (Miramonte HS), Evelyn McManus (Miramonte HS), and coxswain Tori Wong (Miramonte HS).
